At First – For the First Time – 「初めに、初めて、最初から」 を英語で表現
A. At first は （まず）初めに・最初は。
For the first time は 初めて を 意味しますので ２つは 異なる場面で用います。
ex) At first, I was nervous. 初めは 緊張していた
ex) I got nervous for the first time. （生まれて）初めて 緊張した
ex) At first I thought she was crying, but then I realized she was actually laughing.
初めは 彼女が泣いていると思ったが、実は笑っている事に気が付いた
at first /ˈfɚst/: when something first happens or begins to happen
ex) We didn’t like each other at first. [=when we met]
ex) I drank alcohol for the first time in my life yesterday.
昨日 生まれて初めて お酒を飲みました
for the first time /ˈfɚst/: used to say that something has never happened
ex) For the first time in his life he felt truly happy.

first and foremost/ˈfoɚˌmoʊst/: at the most basic level
ex) He is first and foremost [=primarily, fundamentally] a teacher.

ex) I opened a screw top bottle on my first try.

on one’s first try /ˈfɚst/ : at one’s first attempt
ex) This book is the first attempt at consolidating all information in one volume.
Q. Try と Attempt の違いは何ですか？
A. Try と Attempt は 同じ意味で使われますが、Attempt の方が よりフォーマルな響きを持ちます。
(Attempt is used in formal contexts whereas try is used in informal contexts. )
また Attempt は より困難な試み、失敗に終わる 試み の意味を表す際に 用いられます。
□ on one’s first attempt 初めての挑戦で、一回目から、一発で
ex) You may not be able to achieve success on your first attempt, but you have to keep on trying.
初めての挑戦では 成功しないかも知れない、でも 引き続き 挑戦して
ex) The second task was a bit harder, but after a few attempts, I did it.
2つ目の 課題は 少し難しかったが、何回か挑戦した後 うまくいった
attempt /əˈtɛmpt/: an act of trying to do something
ex) She failed her driving test on the first attempt but she succeeded on her second attempt.

ex) For starters we ordered a mixed grill.
まず初めに（前菜として） グリルの盛り合わせを オーダーした
for starter /ˈstɑɚtɚ/: used to introduce a statement that is the first in a series of statements
ex)“Why don’t you like him?” “Well, for starters [=first of all], he was rude to my parents.”
ex) Let me explain, first of all, why I called this meeting.
まず初めに このミーティングを開いた理由を説明させて下さい
first of all /ˈfɚst/: before any other in time, order, or importance
ex) First of all, there’s some confusion we have to clear up.
